Hernienzentrum

One focus of our activity is the treatment of abdominal wall hernias in our hernia center certified by the German Hernia Society. We carry out these interventions on an outpatient or inpatient basis, mainly under general anesthesia, and are a member of the nationwide "Inguinal Hernia Network"

Under an inguinal hernia (Inguinal hernia) one understands a hernia in the area of the inguinal canal with a weakening of the posterior wall of the inguinal canal. Inguinal hernia is one of the most common hernias and is 9 times more common in men than women. The danger of the rupture is the possibility of intestinal entrapment and then possible death of the intestine. These situations are life-threatening and must be avoided. In the treatment of inguinal hernias, a distinction is made between conservative and surgical options, for surgical methods, the open or laparoscopic methods are used (minimalinvasiven) Techniques back.
In the conservative treatment, a hernia is put on. However, this method is obsolete in the vast majority of cases and is only used if it is inoperable. It must be noted at this point, that today's anesthesia procedures are very gentle and therefore conservative therapy is only justified in the rarest of cases.
To avoid entrapment and life-threatening complications, an inguinal hernia should be operated on. When it comes to inguinal hernia surgery, we take a “tailor-made” approach (tailored approach). Several factors play an important role in choosing the best surgical technique: Location and size of the break, Fabric quality, Age and entitlement of the patient, sports, professional needs.
As a hernia center, we offer both open and minimally invasive surgical methods. Which method suits you best, will be clarified in a personal conversation before the operation.

A thigh fracture is a hernia of the intestines below the inguinal ligament. A thigh hernia occurs much less often than an inguinal hernia and diagnosis is usually more difficult. The therapy options are similar to those of the inguinal hernia. Laparoscopic procedures are preferred for a fractured leg.
An umbilical hernia is a gap in the abdominal wall in the umbilical area. This gap allows the bowel or fat to bulge outwards. Here, too, entrapment with life-threatening complications can occur. Umbilical hernias are closed by us using a special suture technique, which closes the hernia while protecting the tissue blood flow, so that a reliable stability of the inner scar is achieved. In addition, nets are often used to reinforce larger breaks. In ca. 15-30% In these cases, a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure can also be used.

By definition, it is an epigastric hernia (epigastrische Hernie) an intestinal hernia between the navel and the sternum. In the surgical treatment of these hernias, both procedures with and without mesh reinforcement are used, analogous to the umbilical hernia. Minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures are also used for epigastric hernias.

Incisional hernias occur in the area of the scars after operations on the abdominal wall. Scars appear after every surgical procedure, whose strength is subject to an intact tissue. The risk of an incisional hernia is particularly high after inflammation in the operating area or after emergency operations. Both open and minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures are available as therapy options, so the recurrence rates can be on under 10% be pressed. Here, too, we proceed “tailor-made” (tailored approach) and discuss the options with you before the operation.

A recurrent hernia is when a new hernia occurs after a hernia operation. Recurrent hernias in the groin area can be consecutive, of the navel- or the hernia occur. The reasons for a relapse are many and not all explored. This also includes the weakness of the connective tissue, which can be either congenital or acquired.

Which method can be used in the operation of a recurrent hernia, depends on the method used initially. Z.B. Openly pre-operated inguinal hernias should be treated laparoscopically or a recurrent umbilical hernia without mesh reinforcement during the primary operation should be treated with a mesh during the relapse surgery.
